Blood sugar problems?

Diabetes is a tricky disease. there are many things that can effect the blood sugar. You did not state if the pancreas was injured in his accident but his liver was and they work together. Food plays a very important role as you know in controlling the blood sugar. There are hidden carbohydrates in food. Peas for example are really considered a carb. so is corn and lima beans, butter beans all beans except green beans. Sweet potatoes or Yams also are a carb. Carrots are high in sugar, as are fruits. Fruits act as simple sugars they are digested quickly and cause the blood sugar to rise quickly then drop about 30-40 minutes later. Juice is the same way. Alcohol is very bad for diabetics it actually causes severe drops in blood sugars. It is best if you can get a book on foods for diabetics. Low blood sugars are more dangerous than high blood sugars. Low blood sugars can cause blackouts, fainting, coma and death. High blood sugars take there toll over long period of time (years), unless of course if they are to the extreme like continually over 300. Eventually effecting eyes, wound healing, kidney failure and loss of limbs related to neuropathy and poor wound healing/infection. Exercise can lower blood sugars. Increasing water intake is a good way to lower elevated blood sugars. There is a test called Hgb A1c that measures average blood sugar over 3 months time. Continue to monitor sugars and get a different doctor if the first one was unsure of his diagnosis. There is so much education out there, just need to get it, library, book stores, etc. Good luck and God bless
