Can i use Birth control to delay my period?

my period is due next week, which is vacation:( i dont want to have my period....so i had an idea to start taking birthcontrol i have from several months back when i was on it, and using it to make my period delay? will it work? is a week on the pill gonna be enough homones to even work?
